SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In a time when opening up a new business seems risky, a new Springfield business owner says she’s ready to take on the challenge.

A ribbon cutting was held for Lucila Sanchez, the new owner of Azaleah’s Sewing Academy. Sanchez teaches practical and essential sewing skills to help enhance the lives of the local community.

Sewing has grown in popularity during the pandemic because it can essentially be done anywhere. Despite many small companies going out of businesses this past year, Sanchez said she’s not too worried.

“This is a time when many people are afraid to open a business. We are not. I think this is a perfect time especially during the pandemic. This is a perfect time to come out of the house and spend some time that is so great, it’s like a therapy,” said Sanchez.

The Latina entrepreneur said her business also offers homemade products for sale and plans on hosting sewing events.
