A new “Dream Court” was unveiled Wednesday afternoon in Springfield.
Springfield ballers now have a new place to play thanks to Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman and other city officials.
Dream Courts are multi-purpose play spaces where children can have a safe place to shoot hoops, socialize, and spend time with members of law enforcement as well.
Lieberman and former NBA player and local hoop legend Travis Best were some of the big names on hand for Wednesday’s event.
Lieberman told 22News it means a lot to help open a new court in the birthplace of basketball, “There’s people in life you would have love to have met and I certainly would have love to have met Dr. James Naismith and to know that we’re putting one not far from the origin of the game is super cool for me.”
Lieberman made the ceremonial first shot at the court, a behind the back half court shot that was nothing but net!
Our own 22News anchor Rich Tettemer was the emcee of the ribbon cutting event.
This is one of many community events leading up to the Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend.
