HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A West Springfield man has been arrested following a deadly motor vehicle crash on Route 5 Sunday night.

According to Holyoke Police Captain Moriarty, at around 7 p.m. crews were called to the intersection of Northampton Street and Belvidere Anevue for a report of a motor vehicle crash. 22News could see an SUV and car with members of the Hampden County DA’s office on site.

Hampden County District Attorney Spokesperson Jim Leydon told 22News 25-year-old Jedd Flores of West Springfield was arrested for the crash and has been charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and operating under the influence. Flores’ vehicle collided head on with the victim’s vehicle after crossing over into oncoming traffic.

Three people in the other vehicle were injured in the accident and taken to the hospital. The driver, 40-year-old Victor Santiago of West Springfield, died from his injuries.

Flores was arraigned in Holyoke District Court Monday and will be held on a $25,000 cash bail, with the conditions of no driving and not to leave the state. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 21.

Belvidere Avenue and Route 5 north were closed for a period of time as crews work to clear the area. The DA’s office and state Police are still investigating the accident.
