Millions of Americans go shopping on Black Friday, some just hours after eating Thanksgiving dinner. But if you are hoping to beat the crowds, many retailers are already having sales.
Some stores at the Holyoke Mall will open up for Black Friday shopping shortly after midnight, but if you’re not one for standing in long lines or in the cold, you may be hitting the stores on Wednesday, taking advantage of many pre-Black Friday sales being offered by retailers. You can probably expect parking lots at many area malls to fill up quickly Wednesday.
Massachusetts’ “Blue Laws” actually prohibit stores from opening on Thanksgiving Day, which is part of the reason many shoppers will be heading to the malls Wednesday. The National Retail Foundation estimates that more than 164 million people will be shopping over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend, which starts Wednesday.
Big box stores, such as Best Buy, Target, Macy’s, and Walmart are all offering some Black Friday deals early this year. The same goes for major online retailers, such as eBay and Amazon. In fact, nearly all of Amazon’s Black Friday items are already on sale.
