Some residents in Springfield spot coyotes, others are skeptical

Hampden County

Some Springfield residents are skeptical about reports of coyotes in their Six Corners neighborhood.

22News received images taken by a viewer who was walking his dog in the area of Maple and Mill streets.

Judy Deane has worked on Maple Street for 25 years. She says she’s never seen a coyote in the area.

“Not at all, the only thing we ever see is cats and dogs,” Deane said. “But never any kind of animal like that.”

Giddens told 22News that it might be a stray cat.

“We have stray cats that roam around here,” Giddens said. “And we do have one that’s kind of beige, kind of the color of a Coyote, that’s about it.”

22News spoke with Mass Wildlife Biologist Dave Whattles. He told 22News, Coyotes are commonly seen in urban areas looking for food.

If you have small pets, it’s important to never leave food outside your home.
