Southwick man taken to hospital with injuries after Route 57 car fire

Drivers were temporarily detoured away from Route 57 in Feeding Hills, due to a car fire early Wednesday afternoon. The highway has since been reopened.

State Police spokesman Trooper Paul Sullivan told 22News a single car rollover crash was called in around 1:15 p.m. He said the car caught on fire.

Trooper Sullivan added that a 47-year-old Southwick man was the driver of the 2000 Volkswagen involved in the crash. He was taken to Baystate with some injuries.

A photo sent to 22News through our Report It feature showed a vehicle engulfed in flames near the median of the highway.

There is no word at this time on the cause of the fire or the extent of the man’s injuries.
