Springfield Armory closes after government shutdown

Hampden County

The government shutdown is impacting some historic sites in Springfield.

The Springfield Armory National Historic Site is closed and will be until the government reopens.

A Christmas at the Armory in WWII event was scheduled Saturday afternoon in the museum theater but was canceled because of the shutdown.

The Springfield Armory was established in 1794 and is the home of the world’s largest historic American military firearms collection.
