Springfield considering new uses for old firehouse on Oak St.

Hampden County

The Oak Street station in Indian Orchard was built in 1897, but for the last several decades, the city’s been using it for storage.

The Planning Department told 22News they have received two “re-use” proposals for the old fire station.

“The city’s been storing their snow removal stuff in there, so I don’t know,” Kevin Denison, a resident of the area, told 22News. “Historical building you know, it’s an old firehouse. I’d really like to see them keep it, somebody, to fill the spots.”

The Planning Department said they have not yet reviewed the reviewed the reuse proposals.
