State, local officials investigating after person found dead in Springfield house fire

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State and local fire officials are investigating after one person was found dead in a house fire on Bristol Street in Springfield late Friday afternoon.

The Springfield Fire Department said crews were called to a fire at 225 Bristol Street around 4:30 p.m. to find heavy smoke coming from the first and second floor of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and put it out.

While searching the home, they found an unresponsive individual who was determined dead. At this time, it is unclear how the fire started at the single-family home or how the victim died.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office spokeswoman Jennifer Mieth said no other injuries were reported.

The Fire Marshal’s Office, the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, along with Springfield police and fire departments are involved with the investigation.
