Springfield event celebrates recovery from drug and alcohol addiction

Hampden County

Dozens of people gathered in Springfield Friday afternoon to celebrate their success in the fight against drug and alcohol addiction.

September is National Recovery Month. The Massachusetts Organization for Addiction Recovery hosted a Recovery Month Celebration at Holy Name Church in Springfield.

The group’s executive director, MaryAnne Frangules, told 22News they want to spread hope through their message that everyone can recover from addiction but they need support. “We want people to talk about addiction, we want people to get the help that they need, to be able to get the services that hey need, and to also support people to stay in longterm recovery as well as keeping people alive.”

Springfield is home to one of five recovery high schools in the state. Liberty Prep offers both education and recovery services for young people struggling with addiction.
