Springfield firefighters have been busy lately, dealing with three fires in just 24 hours’ time.
The most recent fire happened before 5:30 Friday morning at 85 Hayden Avenue in the city’s Mason Square area. A photo taken by the Springfield Fire Department showed charring to the front of the two-story house.
Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that the building was in the process of being renovated, and no one was in the house at the time of the fire.
The department is still looking into the cause of this most recent fire.
On Thursday, Springfield firefighters had to deal with two other fires in the city. Five people were forced out of an apartment home on Lowell Street in Springfield’s Brightwood neighborhood due to a fire that started after 4:00 P.M.
Less than three hours later, three people were forced out due to a kitchen fire at an apartment on Layzon Brothers Road in Indian Orchard. Leger said that fire was caused by unattended cooking.
