Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno has urged pedestrians, for their own safety, to stop crossing Sumner Avenue at the X.
The mayor addressed the continuing problem of people crossing four lanes of traffic instead of using the crosswalks that are nearby.
“People unfortunately at times become very impatient,” Sarno explained. “And when you become impatient, that causes public safety aspects that are not good.”
Because of weather and heavy traffic flow, the worn-out markers at the crosswalks need a fresh painting.
Mayor Sarno promised to have the work finished by the time schools re-open.
