Springfield officers credited with rescuing tenants from Belmont Ave. fire

Hampden County

Springfield Police Officers are being credited with helping rescue tenants from that fire on Belmont Avenue Tuesday.

Springfield Police Lt. Brian Beliveau was driving on Belmont Avenue when he noticed smoke in the area. As he approached the building at 306 Belmont Ave, he saw flames coming from the apartments.

Lt. Beliveau rushed into the building and began instructing residents to get out. When he got to the third floor, he found two people still inside an apartment.

“At this point there was no more light in the stairwell it was just black, we noticed two individuals emerge from the apartment and we escorted them downstairs and I pushed the officers that were below me out,” said Lt. Beliveau.

After those residents were safe, Lt. Beliveau and the other officers went back into the building to check one last apartment which was empty.
