Springfield opens cooling centers

Hampden County

With a heat advisory in effect for parts of western Massachusetts, the city of Springfield has designated several cooling centers for Tuesday.

Visitors to Springfield’s Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center enjoyed the added bonus of staying active.

76-year-old John Thomas told 22News that he’s spent many hot days in the air conditioned exercise room to remain fit, no matter what the weather.

“This is the greatest place to be right now,” he said, staying fit staying cool at the same time.”

Springfield’s daytime cooling centers included the city’s four senior centers and seven library branches.
