Springfield PD: Drunk driver hit fire truck, knocked down light poles on Pearl Street

Hampden County

A woman is facing charges after she allegedly hit a fire truck while driving drunk Tuesday morning.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at 5:50 a.m. firefighters found a woman on Chestnut Street sleeping behind the wheel of a car.

Walsh said when a firefighter knocked on the window of the car the woman woke up and drove off hitting a fire truck and two other parked cars.

The woman then turned onto Pearl Street, passing a police officer, and allegedly crashed into multiple light poles and a building on the street.

The woman was taken to the hospital for possible injuries. Walsh said she will get a criminal complaint for operating under the influence and other charges.

The woman’s name is not being released at this time.
