Springfield Police collect coats for students in need at Bright Nights

Hampden County

Two police departments teamed up to collect winter coats for students in need.

The Springfield Police Department and the Springfield College Campus Police held a coat drive at the Bright Nights Gift Shop in Forest Park Thursday night.

Anyone who donated a coat received a $5 coupon to the gift shop, courtesy of the Spirit of Springfield.

“We collect new or gently used coats,” Sgt. Dan Cotter told 22News. “We don’t limit it just to children. We get the ones for the kids out to the school department and the rest of them are cleaned and sent off in the community where they’re needed the most.”

Another coat drive will be held on Saturday at Cyr Arena in Forest Park from 3-4.

All coats collected will be distributed through the Springfield School Volunteers Program.
