Two local police departments teamed up Saturday night, to make sure every child can stay warm this winter.
Springfield Police and Springfield College Police held a donation drive at Cyr Arena at Forest Park Saturday night.
They collected coats, hats, and gloves, to give to kids in need. Cheri Burton, the officer who started the program told 22News – she noticed a lot of students in Springfield didn’t have coats during the cold winter months and wanted to do something to change that.
Burton said last year’s event was such a success, that they decided to do it again. “When I brought them to the schools they were very grateful, and we’re very grateful to everyone who has donated.”
Burton added, “We’ve received cash donations, we’ve had people who have called me after seeing the last broadcast and are wondering what they can do. So it’s very good to see everyone in the community come together, to help those in need.”
The coats will now be distributed to students in need.
