A Springfield police officer has been named the city’s 2018 Veteran of the Year.
Officer Jose Feliciano was announced as Springfield’s Veteran of the Year during a ceremony at City Hall on Wednesday. The Veteran of the Year award is given every year to a Springfield resident who is a veteran and continuously volunteers their time to better our community.
According to Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh, Feliciano served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, retiring as a sergeant first class.
“Pretty humbled,” Feliciano said. “I was shocked when I was told that I was nominated as Veteran of the Year for 2018.”
Feliciano joined the Springfield Police Department in 1995.
