SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Rescue Mission provided meals to those in need on Friday.

Because of the pandemic, it’s been several years since the Springfield Rescue Mission has been allowed to open its doors for this community meals. The families in need as well as the homeless made certain to take the opportunity of filling the Rescue Mission Cafeteria where a small army of volunteers would serve the holiday meal.

“This is the first time we’ve been able to serve the sit down meal for Christmas. It’s been a couple of years due to the pandemic, so it’s great to be back,” said Kevin Ramsdell, Executive Director of the Springfield Rescue Mission.

It’s been generations since the first time the Rescue Mission invited the community to stop by to enjoy this holiday dinner and to provide the children with Christmas presents.

“It’s a special day because it’s a good opportunity to give back, and to connect with all the people who just need to feel connected,” said volunteer Phebee Allsop.

And on this day, there were sufficient numbers of volunteers to serve those in the dining hall and to distribute meals in bags to those who drove up to enjoy the feast provided by the Rescue Mission.
