Springfield residents attend public meeting for proposed pot shop at Eastfield Mall

Hampden County

Residents were able to hear about a proposal to open a recreational pot shop in the Eastfield Mall.

Springfield-based Cannaworld wanted to hear your thoughts on opening a marijuana shop–where the former Macy’s store used to be. Cannaworld plans to have not only a recreational pot shop–but a cultivation and manufacturing facility on the second floor.

State requirements include video cameras inside and outside any marijuana store and prevent anyone under the age of 21 to enter the facility.

Michelle Baillargeon told 22News pot shops bring positives, but they’re becoming too accessible.

“This is just another opportunity to maybe get someone who is supposed to have it, get it for them and hand it off,” Baillargeon said. Then we’ll have a whole other epidemic of addiction to deal with.”

The meeting took place at 7 Thursday night in the mall’s food court.
