Throughout Springfield, the talk of the town ( or city in this case) is, of course, the grand opening of MGM happening Friday.
People who live here are crediting other projects with the growth being seen in their neighborhoods.
From the nearly $11 million I-91 reconstruction project to the $94 million in renovations made to Union Station, Mayor Sarno says the city continues to grow.
“I’m looking for people to utilize Springfield as it’s base of operations, for economic development investments, for housing, for job creation,” said Mayor Domenic Sarno.
These recent projects also include the establishment of the CRRC rail car factory and Main Street renovations.
One woman told 22News she thinks the city is long overdue for this revitalization and said she’s happy with all the progress that’s been made so far.
“So many things came out of this area, it’s just beyond amazing,” said Jennifer Godin. “It was basically dormant for the past few decades, so I think the growth we’re seeing is amazing.”
The mayor and others are confident this progress will change the perception some have about the city.
