The Urban League of Springfield is teaming up with a national partner to improve education for college-bound students.
The Urban League has reinforced its partnership with the Washington-based Leadership Conference to advocate for equity and access.
Their focus is on remedial education.
“Kids going to college, spending their precious Pell Grant dollars, or other scholarship money to take courses that they’ll never gain credit from,” said Trevis Wray of the Urban League of Springfield. “And they’re learning content that they should have been taught in high school.”
Wray said Massachusetts spent $20 million on remedial education in 2016, and their partnership has a goal of reducing those rates.
