Springfield’s Forest Park Zoo will be celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.
Zoo Director Sarah Tsitso unveiled Friday the zoo’s new anniversary logo.
She said when the zoo reopens the end of March, weather permitting, will have close ties with the Dr. Seuss Museum at the Springfield Quadrangle.
“Dr. Seuss’s father was one of the first curators way back in the day,” said Tsitso. “Dr. Seuss actually spent a lot of time here as a child and the animals he saw here really informed his work and inspired some of his work.”
The zoo will be out to top the attendance of 55,000 visitors last year, which was up 11,000 over the previous year.
If the weather permits, the 125th anniversary season will begin on March 30th.
