Springfield Technical Community College remembered loved ones who died at the hands of their abusers.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than one thousand people are abused by their significant others every hour in the U.S.
Candles were lit in remembrance. One survivor told 22News why events like these are so important.
“It also encourages other people to step forward and talk about the things that they’ve gone through; to not be afraid to report what they’re seeing, or what they’re experiencing,” said Jessica Flynn. “Whether it’s happening to them or someone else.”
STCC brought in several guest speakers for Tuesday night’s vigil.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
