Strawberries were the highlight of Friday’s farmers market in downtown Springfield.
The Strawberry Festival at Tower Square Park called attention to this being the peak of the strawberry season in western Massachusetts.
People who live and work downtown have found the outdoor market a convenient place to buy their produce.
“Oh it’s fabulous,” Susan Gonyea told 22News. “Not only is it close but everything is so fresh. and it’s a real bonus for any of us who work or live here.”
Springfield’s Business Improvement District came up with the concept for the farmers’ market.
Their season began May 18 and will run through the final Friday in October.
