Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno welcomed a delegation of Japanese high school students to City Hall.
The students come from Takikawa, Springfield’s sister city in Japan.
After a lunch of pizza, the students toured City Hall and gave 22News an impression of what they had seen and eaten.
Nanaise Asai, a student, told 22News, “I like the building, it’s so big, so yes.”
An exchange of gifts marked this international gathering. Mayor Sarno presented the Japanese students with a prosperity candle.
In return, the Mayor of Takikawa made certain his student delegation gave Mayor Sarno artwork depicting the Japanese autumn season.
Students from Springfield’s sister city visit western Massachusetts at least once a year.
