A holiday party in East Longmeadow celebrated St. Lucia Day.
A Lucia pageant was held at St. Paul Lutheran Church Sunday afternoon.
St. Lucia’s Day is one of the most cherished celebrations in Scandinavia. The celebration comes from stories that were told by Monks who first brought Christianity to Sweden.
Three Crowns Swedish Children’s Club portrayed Lucia, as part of the celebration.
“Today we celebrate St. Lucia Day which is a Swedish holiday and basically Lucia comes on the darkest day of the year and she brings light so I wear this crown of candles to bring the light,” Emma Kindblon of Wilbraham told 22News.
The event was free. Nordic dances and songs sung in Swedish were also featured.
