Trash still piled up behind Springfield shopping plaza

Hampden County

22News first made you aware of trash piling up behind a save a lot in Springfield last month.

We talked to many people Tuesday, who told us the property owner of  Save-A-Lot cleaned a lot of the trash up…but there is still more that needs to be done.

The owner of Hair 2000, says people have been dumping their trash over the hill for years now.

“The stuff that you saw over there…that has been dumped over from the people that were living there,” John Marnelakis said. “So now of course they want our landlord to clean it up. I don’t know whose fault it is or who’s going to clean it, but that’s the way it goes.”

Mark Malikian, who manages the property, told 22News it’s aggravating to try and keep the property clean for tenants and customers.

There are signs at the Save-A-Lot that say the dumpster there is for tenant use only and that it is monitored by surveillance cameras.
