CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Two people were hurt when they were struck by a car on Chicopee Street in Chicopee Friday night.

Both people were seriously injured, according to Chicopee Police officer Mike Wilk.

Chicopee Street was closed off at State Street throughout the night and early into Saturday morning, but has since reopened.

Wilk told 22news that a car went up onto the sidewalk and hit two pedestrians on Chicopee Street at about 10 p.m. Friday night.  Wilk described one of the person’s injuries as “life-threatening.”  Both were rushed to the hospital.

A badly damaged car was stuck in a fence next to the sidewalk.

Wilk said, “The driver attempted to walk away from the scene (but) our detectives were able to catch him and he’s being detained.”
