The United States Postal Service’s Bulk Mail Center on Fiberloid Street in Indian Orchard has started hiring some of the 500 seasonable workers that will be needed beginning Veterans day, November 14th through January 4th.
That’s in addition to the 1,000 full time employees at the processing center.
“We’re especially looking at our parcels to increase,” Nancy Wasko explained. “First, from everyone ordering online for gifts to give, and then gifts being given out to deliver. So our parcel volume will increase, probably double from what we’re doing right now.”
The Postal Service hopes the seasonal pay of $16.19 to $17 and hour will be an incentive to the hundreds of workers like Anthony Cirillo, who will be needed for the holiday season.
“It’s a good time, the perfect timing,” Cirillo told 22News. “And, you know, it could lead to an opportunity in the future from here on out. You get in, you show you’re a good worker, you go from there.”
The U.S. Postal Service expects to hire seasoned workers who, up until recently, worked part time at stores at the malls; jobs reportedly lost with the upsurge in shopping online.
Those who cannot attend the open house are encouraged to apply online.
