Volunteers improve living conditions for veterans in Springfield

Hampden County

Another housing rehab project was completed Friday, one that will provide transitional housing for homeless western Massachusetts veterans.

Volunteers from the Home Depot Foundation worked with Springfield’s Bilingual Veterans Outreach Center to improve living conditions at a Maple Court building in Springfield.

They were there to rehab eleven bedrooms and six bathrooms in addition to installing new flooring for the homeless veterans living there.

Gumersindo Gomez told 22News, “The program was created back in ’96 when I acquired a house to house at least 12 homeless veterans. We’ve been doing that since.”

Working with the Home Depot Foundation, the Bilingual Veterans Outreach Centers across the country have provided decent living for thousands of homeless veterans.
