West Springfield Mayor William Reichelt Thursday, discussed the safety of the North End Bridge over the Connecticut River.
Mayor Reichelt dismissed concerns by a 22News viewer, that the bridge has accumulated rust build up. The mayor told 22News, the only thing wrong with the bridge is that it needs some work repairing the road surface.
“It gets a lot of traffic, especially when they redid the Memorial Bridge, all the traffic went over to the North End Bridge, so it does get traffic, the road surface needs work, but the bridge itself we have no concerns about,” said Mayor Reichelt.
MassDOT engineers last inspected the North End Bridge in August of 2017. They’ll next inspect the structural soundness of the bridge this coming August.
