Pete and Lynn Gillen’s appearance on Wheel of Fortune was recorded in Los Angeles a month ago but broadcast on 22News Monday night.

Their reception from Wheel host Pat Sajak was repeated on Tuesday by the thunderous approval from the students at West Springfield Middle School, where Peter serves as the principal.

He told 22News him and his wife’s achievements on Wheel of Fortune is something they and their three daughters will never forget.

“Once we grabbed it, no matter what was on the board, we were going to call it and try to get that prize,” Gillen recounted. “And we were fortunate enough to do so.”

“I was very excited,” Assistant Principal Nicole Manning told 22News. “I was playing along, I was solving the puzzle I was very excited.”

Peter Gillen’s students expressed their deep admiration for what their principal achieved on Wheel of Fortune.

“I was like ‘Wow, he’s really smart,'” Jada said, adding that she’s “never seen somebody answer that fast.”

Principal Gillen hopes his Wheel of Fortune experience would serve as a lesson for his students, demonstrating the value of initiative and the willingness to put yourself out there.
