West Springfield Public Library workshop discusses bullying within senior communitites

Hampden County

Bullying isn’t just a problem for young people.

Some senior citizens are known to be treated rudely by those their own age. Bullying at senior housing, nursing homes, and senior centers was the subject of a workshop Tuesday afternoon at the West Springfield Public Library.

Executive Director for Westfield’s Armbrook Village Senior Housing, Beth Cardillo told 22News, how improper behavior often manifests itself in the dining room.

“Well I want to sit with my friends and no you can’t sit there and I don’t know who you are, you can’t sit at my table and you can’t sit at that table,” said Cardillo.

Cardillo explained that such inappropriate behavior by senior citizens is often the result of resentment over losing a certain independence in their lives.
