The Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Dingle Peninsula Tourism Alliance have announced a co-marketing program.
Members of the Western Mass Tourism Community and officials from West Springfield will travel to Ireland.
Officials from western Massachusetts will be traveling to the Dingle Peninsula to promote western Massachusetts to Ireland.
The trip also promotes ease of access to the area via Aer Lingus’ direct services out of Bradley International Airport.
In addition to members of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, officials from Yankee Candle, The Big E, Spirit of Springfield, The Basketball Hall of fame, Springfield Museums, and the former and current mayor of West Springfield.
According to Mary Kay Wydra, president of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau, the trip is funded by private accounts from each organization, no state funds are used.
She also added why the promotion of Aer Lingus is so important to Ireland and Western Massachusetts.
“There’s a high concentration of Western Mass folks living in the Dingle Peninsula area so to have Aer Lingus right out of Bradley 20 minutes down to the airport to be able to take that flight and be over to see relatives is a great thing,” said Wydra.
While in Ireland, the group will travel to Dublin to visit with tour operators who will be promoting the area to Irish travelers. The group will be speaking with members of the Irish media, students, and Irish tourism officials on the trip.
