Western Mass. residents hold standout in support of law enforcement

Hampden County

A local standout in support of law enforcement was held in Springfield today.

A group of western Massachusetts residents organized the standout, called “Back the Blue,” following the recent deaths of two Massachusetts police officers.

Dozens of people stood in solidarity along Boston Road holding signs that read “We stand with police,” and “Thank you SPD.”

One of the organizers of the event told 22News civilians aren’t the only ones who need protection.

“Police officers are dedicated to protecting us and sometimes they need some protection even if it’s just showing support for them,” said David Sanders of Wilbraham. “They put their lives on the line every single day and they need to know that we got their back.”

The event was promoted as a peaceful standout with no protest, no speakers or sound amplifiers and was intended to show gratitude and support for all law enforcement and their families.
