Western Massachusetts communities partake in National Night Out events

Hampden County

Local communities participated in the National Night Out against crime Tuesday night.

Agawam’s National Night Out included a fly in from Baystate Medical Center’s air ambulance, “Life-star” helicopter, the State Police Mounted Unit, and Agawam police and fire vehicles.

The community has been coming together for the last 35 years to learn about law enforcement, and what residents can do to help fight crime.

“They showed about how they’re working on the roads in Agawam,” said Amanda Leopardi of Agawam. “About how they’re going to build a bike path. They had the jaws of life. I think it’s good for all of the kids.”

More than 16,000 communities across the country are celebrating the National Night Out against crime this year.

Agawam was one of several local communities that have continued to hold these events year after year.
