Western Massachusetts residents were able to learn more about their Jewish family roots Sunday.
The Western Massachusetts Jewish Genealogical Society hosted a research event at the Congregation Sons of Zion in Holyoke.
Experienced researchers were available to help visitors learn more about their DNA testing and its interpretation.
Iris Broudy of the Western Mass Jewish Genealogical Society told 22News that online DNA testing has raised more curiosity about genealogy.
“More and more people want to know where they come from. Or, they get their DNA results and say oh my goodness,” said Broudy. “Maybe it’s not a Jewish person, but they have some Jewish genes.”
The society said the event welcomes beginners and experts who need help exploring their genealogy or translating documents.
