Hampden County

A local university held a special fundraiser walk Sunday morning in support of the fight to prevent suicide.

Western New England University held its annual “Out of the Darkness” 5k campus walk on Sunday.

Campus walks are held each spring at colleges and high schools in hundreds of cities across the country.

The walks are intended to give young adults the courage to open up about the topics of suicide and mental health.

The Out of the Darkness campus walks are the “American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s” signature student fundraising series.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among people ages 15 to 24.
