Westfield Mayor Brian Sullivan will not run for re-election. The two-term mayor and former city councilor announced his decision Wednesday afternoon to step down after completing his term through the end of the year.
“I made a promise to myself, my family and the residents of Westfield that I would continue doing this job until my attitude changed or I lost an election,” Mayor Sullivan said. “And I still haven’t lost an election so it’s my attitude that has changed.”
The mayor spoke of much happening in his life in the past year, without actually referring to the sudden death of his brother and longtime school committee member Kevin Sullivan.
Sullivan was first elected mayor in 2015.
