International Women’s Day was observed with gifts of flowers at the Women, Infants, and Children’s offices in Holyoke, Chicopee, and Westfield on Friday.
Springfield City Councilor Kateri Walsh is head of the Springfield Women’s Commission. “I’m thinking back to 1909 when the women’s movement started in Seneca Falls, New York. Certainly, women are in a better place than they were 100 years ago. I mean, look at the technology, look at the fields that women are able to enter.”
On Saturday, Springfield’s Boland Elementary School will host an International Women’s day Salute starting at 1 p.m.
Councilor Walsh and Springfield College President Mary-Beth Cooper will be the speakers at the event.
