A Wilbraham youth leadership program is being offered to teens in honor of a fallen soldier.
The Brian Odiorne Youth Leadership Initiative is a free, 5-week program consisting of two-hour meetings focused on building a sense of self and leadership within the community.
The program’s goal is to replicate Brian Odiorne’s good qualities, including having a strong voice and taking positive risks.
“I’m a mental health counselor and in doing some of this work, I’ve found that a lot of teenagers have heightened anxiety or depression or have trouble managing their emotions and so one of the things I’ve seen across the board is that people really need an outlet,” said Steven Opalenik.
Private First Class Brian Odiorne, of Ware, was killed in Iraq last year when he was just 21-years-old.
