A woman is dead after being struck by an Amtrak Northeast train in the Wason Avenue area late Monday afternoon.
Springfield Police were called to the area of Wason Avenue and Clinton Street for a report of an adult woman who was hit by the train around 3:35 p.m.
Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News responding officers found the woman with life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
According to Amtrak Northeast, the trespassing incident caused delays during Monday evening’s commute. There were no reports of injuries involving the passengers on board.
Amtrak Northeast tweeted shortly after 4 p.m. that the Vermonter Train 56 had been stopped north of Springfield due to the incident.
Train 56 resumed service and operated on 1 hour and 50 minutes delay, Amtrak Northeast announced.

Springfield and Amtrak Police are trying to determine how the incident happened.
