Hampden County

Hundreds of people met in Springfield Tuesday morning to eat for a good cause.

The YWCA of western Massachusetts held a breakfast at the Basketball Hall of Fame to raise money for their domestic violence and sexual assault programs.

Studies show 1 out of every 4 women is a victim of domestic violence.

The Executive Director of the YWCA told 22News events like these are important.

“The YWCA is a necessary agency within western mass because it provides an opportunity for women who are survivors of domestic assault and sexual assault to have a place to go get counseling,” said Program Director Elizabeth Dineen.

Dineen told 22News children who have witnessed violence are also able to receive help through the program.

Honorary Chair, Congressman Richard Neal and event co-chairs Hampden County DA Anthony Gulluni and Sheriff Nick Cocchi attended as well.
