An 11-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after falling through the ice in Amherst Sunday afternoon.
Amherst Assistant Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren told 22News that crews were called to Puffer’s Pond a little after noon Sunday for reports of a person who had fallen through the ice.
The boy was submerged to his chest, but bystanders were able to pull him to shore before crews arrived.
The boy had been hiking with a family member and decided to walk home alone by crossing the pond. He was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital for possible mild hypothermia.
The Amherst Fire Department is urging parents to remind their children that they should never go out on the ice alone.
