A music festival bringing awareness and raising funds to help end hunger.
The Unifier Healing & Expressive Arts festival is inviting the public to join a 45 mile walk, through eight different communities before ending in Tolland Friday, where they’ll be treated to a free music festival.
In western Massachusetts, more than 220,000 people need help with putting food on the table.
Ken Johnston is hoping to reduce that number by embarking on a three-day, 45 mile walk, where he’ll also be taking FOOD donations. Johnston began in Amherst Wednesday morning and 22News caught up with him as he crossed into Easthampton.
“Here in Hampshire county over 30,116 residents of Hampshire County have sought food assistance,” said Johnston.
The food will go to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and pantries in Easthampton, Westfield, Southwick, Granville, and Tolland.
The Unifier Festival kicks off this weekend in Tolland. More than 1,500 people are expected to attend and dance to over 100 different musicians.
Johnson isn’t a stranger of long walks. Last year, Unifier Festival sponsored him on a 400 mile walk from Selma, Alabama to Memphis, Tennessee.
