UMass may be providing additional housing for students.
UMass Amherst is planning to rebuild new housing for 1,000 undergraduate students on campus.
The project would be developed on what is now a series of parking lots, and would also include the rebuilding of the North Village apartment complex on the other side of the campus.
One student who lives in a newer residence hall told 22News new housing would help bring more students to UMass.
“I live in new housing in honors and it’s really nice there,” said David Ibrahim, a sophomore at UMass. “Added housing will definitely be a benefit and a good way to attract new students.”
The UMass Trustees Committee on Administration and Finance voted in Boston on Wednesday to issue a Request for Proposals from interested developers.
The proposals likely won’t be returned to UMass until 2020.
