SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – Amherst Police Captain Jennifer Gundersen has been chosen as South Hadley’s next police chief.
Gundersen will take over for South Hadley Police Chief Steven Parentela once he retires in January.
According to the Town of South Hadley, Gundersen was chosen from more than 25 applicants from five different states and agencies. She has 24 years of experience in law enforcement.
Town Administrator Michael J. Sullivan said he is “confident Captain Gundersen will be an outstanding leader in the mold of those who have preceded her as South Hadley police chief,” adding she will “help set a course for the future of the department in the complex field of police work.”
Gundersen will become police chief on January 4, 2019.
