Amherst Police now have the ability to help opioid users receive treatment to overcome their addictions.
Amherst Police Chief Scott Livingstone has activated the new, specially trained Drug Addiction and Recovery team known as “DART.”
Livingstone told 22News, when these officers provide NARCAN to reverse an overdose, their work is just beginning.
“They are responsible for follow up to make sure that the families and the individual has the resources to try to get out of that addiction,” Livingstone said.
The DART team will connect the drug user with people who specialize in treatment and rehabilitation, along with resources for family members.
