Belchertown mother pushing for CPR training at schools after son helped save friend’s life

Hampshire County

A Belchertown parent is urging state legislatures to make CPR training mandatory in all Massachusetts schools.

Kelly Bottari’s son Christian and his friends helped save the life of a Belchertown High School classmate two weeks ago when the boy suffered sudden cardiac arrest during a ride home from school.

Christian never took a CPR course, but he remembered what his mom told him about the course she had taken.

Christian told 22News, “Just the conversation with my Mom when she got back from CPR attended classes.”

“There are so many ways to say that you’re proud, I’m proud of him,” Bottari told 22News.

A family friend is so impressed with Christian and his friends saving the life of the teenager that she’s nominated them as western Massachusetts Red Cross Hometown Heroes.

The 17th annual Hometown Heroes Breakfast will be held in March.
